A good run of my exterior work is up the coast between Te Puna and Waihi Beach, and I'm happy to keep heading that way.
Katikati is about half an hour up the road from me and Waihi Beach a bit under an hour, and between them is a stretch of coast with a lot of houses that were built for holidays and now get lived in year round. I’ve painted enough of them to know what the salt and the sun do out here.
Weatherboard baches from the 60s and 70s, cedar places that have been stained rather than painted, and a growing number of newer architectural homes on the lifestyle blocks around Katikati. The older ones tend to have had a coat slapped on every so often without much prep underneath, so the first job is usually getting back to something sound before any colour goes on.
The black house in the photos is a full exterior at Katikati. At Waihi Beach I painted the white weatherboard place pictured here, and at Athenree the bach and its garage went from tired stained cedar to a fresh white finish among the bush. There’s a cedar weatherboard exterior at Kauri Point too. My most recent job is on Hot Springs Road in Katikati, and the before-and-after shots from it are on their way to this page.
I don’t do exteriors out here as day trips. Once the quote’s accepted I book a run of days, watch the forecast, and get the whole house done in one stretch so you’re not looking at scaffold and half-painted boards for a month. If your place is a bach that’s rented out, tell me the bookings and I’ll work around them.

I'll tell you straight on the quote. The price is fixed and written down before I start, so if the distance adds anything you'll see it there as a line, not as a surprise at the end. For an exterior I plan the days so I'm out there for a solid run rather than driving back and forth.
Yes, I've done it before at Athenree. Give me the booking calendar and I'll fit the elevations around the guests, and leave the place tidy between days so nobody arrives to a house wrapped in masking tape.
